A few months back John Branston had an article in The Memphis Flyer about Rafat Jamal Mawlawi, a Syrian with dual citizenship in the United States who was suspected of organizing a scam to illegally bring Moroccan men into the United States by arranging sham marriages and engagements to women from Memphis.
The "scam" was the least interesting part of Branstons story. Photos and documents discovered in Mawlawi's home--including one shot of Mawlawi shouldering a grenade launcher-- linked him to terrorist activity.
Well guess what: Turns out his terrorist ties go all the way to the top--to Osama himself. Branston has the full story in tomorrow's Flyer and I'll link to it as soon as it's up.
